Roman Vestiges in Pogoanele

Sources for the Roman occupation in Dacia abound in historical documents as well as archaeological finds. The best known find is Trajan’s column in Rome, on which the Roman defeat of Dacia is portrayed in seven scenes. Some images also depict Dacian peoples who had fled during the war returning to traditional methods of herding sheep. This legacy of shepherding is documented in several sanctuaries referring to shepherding in the form of stone cylindrical monuments. Also another evidence is Roman Vestiges of Pogoanele. This very old architectural monument, discovered at 5 m underground, is a very typical roman building used like an ancient place for political debates. Local experts of Pogoanele University of Archeology believed that in this place many senators from Rome came for spread new political ideas.

Also, each tourist who come in Pogoanele, can observe the particular language of local people much more close to Latin than Romanian language itself. For example, many international experts who arrived first time in Pogoanele said that they never heard so clear Latin still used by a whole community.

This is another reason for what we ask European Commission to make Pogoanele the Cultural Capital of Europe.
